Thomas Michael McMenemy

December 21, 1957 – July 4, 2026

With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Thomas Michael McMenemy, 68, of Woodbury, New Jersey, who entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 4, 2026, surrounded by the unwavering love of his family.

Born on December 21, 1957, in Brooklyn, New York, Thomas was the beloved son of the late Millar and Jacquelyn McMenemy. He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert McMenemy.

In 1976, Thomas answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Navy. For the next 12 years, he proudly served overseas and around the world with honor, courage, and dedication. His love for America never faded, and those who knew him knew how deeply proud he was to have worn the uniform of the United States Navy. It is especially fitting that this proud patriot took his final breath on Independence Day, a day that meant so much to him throughout his life.

While serving in the Navy, Thomas met the love of his life, Sheila. On June 16, 1979, they were married in Charleston, South Carolina, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned 47 years. Their military life allowed them to travel the world before they eventually settled in Woodbury, New Jersey, in 1985, where they built a loving home and raised their three children.

Above every title he ever held, Thomas treasured being a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. His greatest joy came from the time spent with his family. Whether sharing stories, cheering on his grandchildren, or simply enjoying being surrounded by those he loved, he found happiness in the people who meant the most to him.

Thomas was also a devoted fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Flyers. He loved watching his teams compete and proudly supported them through every season. Those who knew him will remember his quick smile, his sense of humor, his loyalty, and the quiet strength that carried him through life’s challenges.

Over the past year, Thomas fought an incredibly courageous battle with a rare form of cancer. Through every appointment, treatment, and setback, he displayed remarkable strength and determination. Even in the face of unimaginable adversity, his love for his family never wavered, and his courage inspired everyone around him.

Thomas leaves behind the love of his life and devoted wife of 47 years, Sheila McMenemy; his beloved children, Jaimelyn (Golden) of Pine Hill, New Jersey; Sandra (Michael) of Woodbury, New Jersey; and Patrick (Darlyn) of Hammond, Louisiana.

He was an incredibly proud grandfather to Raymond, Golden, Joshua, Gianna, Aiden, Patrick Jr. (PJ), Ryder, MJ, and Kash, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to his life. He was also blessed to become a great-grandfather to Pandora and Josiah, whom he loved dearly.

He is also survived by his brother, Kevin McMenemy and his wife, Ellen, of Whiting, New Jersey, three additional siblings, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish the memories they shared with him.

Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Thomas is no longer in pain. His life was one of service, sacrifice, love, and unwavering devotion to his family and his country. His legacy will continue through the lives of his children, grandchildren, and all who were fortunate enough to know him.

A Navy veteran never truly leaves his post. He simply stands watch from above.

Fair winds and following seas, Sailor. Your duty is done. Your watch has ended. Rest easy—we have the watch.

Farewell Tribute

Services will be private by the request of the family.  Thomas will be laid to rest with military honors at the Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery Williamstown, New Jersey.
