Arline Stott

Dec 19, 1936 — Jun 14, 2026

Arline Stott was born in Castle Gate, UT as Arline Kay Perkins on December 19, 1936. She told me she was the jump rope champion of Orem, Utah when she was about 10.

She had a dog she just loved named Poochie. She loved fishing on the Provo River with her Dad. She gained a testimony when she prayed to know if the gospel was true. She received an experience in her room that she knew the truth. She attended Lincoln High from the 7th grade until the 12th. Can you imagine going to football games and on dates and being at high school activities since you were that young? She was on a cheer squad for the Tigers. She played the organ at Church when she was young.

She married Leland Stott in the Salt Lake Temple in 1955. He got a job as an engineer with IBM in Salt Lake City. She followed him moving to San Jose, CA for a number of years and then to Tucson, AZ for around 30 years.

Arline was a Relief Society president and worked in the Mesa Temple and then in the Gilbert Temple. She loved learning about the church from various scholars including one man who was commissioned by the church to study the origins of the Book of Abraham at libraries around the world. Her faith was so strong that she could be healed. She hurt her back falling off a kitchen island. She said she had faith to be healed and wanted one with the faith to heal her who was Leland. She said after the blessing she leapt up from the chair with no back pain from then until now. She took up painting in her fifties and painted a couple hundred paintings, filling her house with them and selling them and giving them to family members.

She married Robert McNelly in 2014 after living alone since her husband passed away in 2010.

He had lost his wife and was inspired to find her. They found each other and it was the beginning of a wonderful time together for 12 years. They split their time between his ward and her ward, making wonderful friends at each ward. They went on their honeymoon to Washington DC where he was working. During free time they saw all the sights in the city and drove to New York and North Carolina.

After he retired she was losing the ability to walk a long distance so they had twin mobility scooters which they took to the Zoo Lights and the Temple Lights at Christmas and to the state fair. We went to Benihana on our birthdays for all the years we were together.

She is grateful for all her friends from Taco Tuesday and for you.

She was so happy and smiling.

She is survived by her children Rayne, Darren, Julie and Nathan. She had more than 35 grandchildren and step grandchildren and about 15 great grandchildren.

We will see her again when we pass on and go to the Celestial kingdom to live with Father in Heaven and his son Jesus Christ and our friends and acquaintances.
