Barbara Dorothy Gilbert

Barbara Dorothy Gilbert, 78, of Mesa, Arizona, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 1, 2026.

Born in Kankakee, Illinois on February 20, 1948, Barbara was the daughter of the late Carlyle and Alice Guenther. She built a long and dedicated career with the KFC Regional Office, where she served as assistant to the Southwestern Regional Manager. Her professionalism, warmth, and steady presence made her a beloved colleague throughout her years of service.

Faith and music were the heart of Barbara’s life. Deeply involved in her church community, she found joy in choir and in every opportunity to share her love of music. Whether singing, supporting musical programs, or simply listening with appreciation, she embraced every note. Music was a calling for her, a source of connection, and a reflection of her generous spirit.

Barbara had a gift for seeing the good in others. With a kind heart and a gentle nature, she was the person who would step forward to help anyone in need. Her compassion shaped countless lives and remains one of her most enduring legacies.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, David Gilbert, and her brother, Karl Guenther. She is survived by her sisters, Mary Rew of Saint Libory, Illinois, and Carla Barker of Louisville, Kentucky. She is also lovingly remembered by her many nieces and nephews, as well as her great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom she cherished deeply.

As per Barbara’s wishes, a small private ceremony will be held following the placement of her ashes beside her beloved husband, Dave—together again in rest.
