A kind and gentle friend to all, John passed away at home on May 7, 2020 in San Tan Valley, Arizona from complications due to pancreatic cancer.
Born to John Lowell Nichols, Sr. and Edwina Victorine (Crosley) Tinkler on November 13, 1946, in Los Angeles, California.
Buried at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona in Phoenix, Arizona; May 8, 2020.
Survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Darlene Joy Anderson, San Tan Valley, Arizona; 4 daughters and 2 sons: Wendi (Michael) Baggaley, Minot, ND; Steven (Emily) Nichols, South Jordan, UT; Heidi Nichols, Provo, UT; Heather Nichols, Berlin, Germany; Adam (Camille) Nichols, Gilbert, AZ; and Amy (Kent) Uber, Huntingtown, MD; 18 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild; 2 sisters Vicki Careene McCarthy, of Tacoma, WA; Mary Theresa (Craig) Sperling, of Cottonwood, AZ; 1 Brother, James Douglas Nichols, of Tyler, TX; and beloved cousins.
Graduated from Burbank High School, Burbank, California 1964, and served in the US Navy from 1964 to 1971. Graduated from Brigham Young University, BS in Industrial Education in 1974. Active and awarded member in VICA (Vocational Industrial Clubs of America).
John started his own business repairing televisions during college, taught Electronics for Hillcrest High School and the local community college, and retired after 23 years of service as Corporate Instructor for Honeywell Corporation in Minneapolis, MN.
John married his sweetheart, Darlene Joy Anderson in the Oakland, California temple on November 22, 1967.
John's hobbies and interests included teaching, electronics, collecting movies, surfing, boating, waterskiing, BYU sports, basketball and football. John was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities and callings in the church including 11 years as an ordinance worker in the St. Paul Minnesota Temple and two local missions.
