Raymond Aquino Elarmo

Oct 21, 1948 — Jul 5, 2013

MONTEREY- Raymond Aquino Elarmo, 64, passed away on July 5, 2013, at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula after suffering a brief illness while surrounded by his family. Ray was born on October 21, 1948, at Fort William McKinley in the Philippines to Larry and Leonila Elarmo. His father, Larry was a member of the US Army and from the Philippines and the family traveled to Japan when Ray was five years old. The family eventually settled in Seaside while his father was stationed at Fort Ord, where his father eventually retired from the Army. Ray graduated from Monterey High School and attended Monterey Peninsula College where he learned to master his horticulture skills. Ray loved to landscape and grow vegetables. Ray was a founding member of The Young Ones Band from the 1960s and Image from the 1970s. The Image Band toured on the west coast in the 1970's right after his marriage. Ray met the love of his life, Carol, while in The Young Ones Band and married her on Valentine's Day in 1970. Before starting their family Ray decided to turn his talents to the Real Estate business where he started as a Real Estate agent, then became a loan officer and eventually a real estate appraiser where he started his own business Elarmo Appraisal Services. He still found time to devote to his music and could be seen singing karaoke around the peninsula. He recently teamed up with Access Monterey Peninsula and developed his persona, Dr. Love and the Ask Dr. Love Show. Dr. Love would give advice while dressed rather garishly and would speak in a heavy accent Ray perfected from his mother. This was the Ray he loved best. Ray was a show man until the end and would perform for anyone who would ask. He especially loved singing impromptu with his brothers. If there was a microphone and stage nearby eventually you would see Ray on it with the mic in his hand ready to perform for anyone who would listen. Ray is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Carol, daughter Selene of Marina CA, son Raymond of Fresno CA, grandsons Sean Bailey and Cameron Bailey of Seaside CA, father Larry of Seaside CA, sister Dency Pangilinan (Noly) of Concord CA, brothers, Joseph of Monterey CA, Edward of Kapolei Hawaii, and Richard of Seaside CA, and many aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his Mother, Leonila of Seaside CA, and brother Ranny of Seaside CA. He is also survived by his dog, Poquita, a teacup Chihuahua. He loved his dog very much. Visitation will be held on Thursday July 11, 2013, 5- 8 pm with rosary 7 pm at Mission Mortuary, 450 Camino El Estero, Monterey. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 12, 2013, 9:30 am at Mission Mortuary and burial will follow at Mission Memorial Park 1915 Ord Grove Avenue, Seaside, CA.
