Robin Vaughan

July 23, 1930 — December 16, 2012

CARMEL - Robin Robison Vaughan, 82, a long-time resident, died peacefully at home on December 16, 2012. A fifth generation Californian, born July 23, 1930 in Monterey, she grew up in Monterey, Carmel and Santa Clara. Robin attended San Francisco College for Women and obtained a Bachelors degree in History. Robin was a font of knowledge about Monterey area history and was very proud of her California trailblazing ancestors (Walker family). Robin was very active in the Monterey History and Art Association, having been La Favorita and La Duena, and was awarded the Laura Bride Powers award in 2001 for contributions to the Association. She was a volunteer at the Monterey Adobes, Tor House, and the Carmel Mission, and a member of the Carmel Preservation Society and the Navy League. Robin married her husband, Jim Vaughan, in 1955 at the Carmel Mission. They began raising their three children as Jim continued working for the military as a civilian, which took them to Seattle and then to Sierra Vista, Arizona and later to Alameda, California. In addition to raising her children, Robin worked as a schoolteacher and later as a jobs coordinator for the Employment Development Department (EDD) in Oakland and Monterey. She returned to Carmel in 1983 to take care of her father, Shelburn Robison. Robin had lots of enthusiasm for life and loved to travel and try new things. Rather than say goodbye, she would always say "have fun". Robin was a member of the Carmel Mission parish. Well-known for organizing picnics at local beaches and parks, she taught her children to appreciate sunsets and how to sing, even when you really can't carry a tune. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Vaughan; her brother, Sam Robison; and her parents, Shelburn and Helen Robison. She is survived by three children, Patrick, Tim and Shauna Vaughan; her sister, Alex Robison; five grandchildren, Kelsea, Elizabeth, Ben, Adrian and Genny; her niece, Sandra and nephew, Millan. Thanks to caregiver, Edna and her VNA nurses. A memorial service will be held at the Carmel Mission Basilica at 11:00am on Saturday, December 22, 2012. .
