Gonzalo Asedillo Fabricante
January 10, 1941 — May 5, 2026
After nearly 45 million minutes on God's green Earth, United States Coast Guard Chief Warrant Officer II, Gonzalo Asedillo Fabricante of Marina California, was called upon by God to enter the Heavenly Kingdom as he peacefully passed away on May 5, 2026 surrounded by his loving spouse and family after a courageous battle with cardiovascular disease—a minute too soon at the age of 85.
Gonzalo Asedillo Fabricante, affectionately known as “Pepa” to family, “Fab” or “Kuya Alo” to colleagues and friends, was born on January 10, 1941, to Baltazar and Florentina of San Antonio Laguna, Philippines. Upon graduating from Pedro Guevara Memorial HS, Santa Cruz, Laguna in 1958, Gonzalo came to an epiphany about his life course, the calling to join the United States military in order achieve a better life than his humble beginnings.
Decision in hand, he enlisted in the United States Coast Guard in 1960 with his first role as seaman, then he advanced quickly to the rank of petty officer, chief petty officer, and eventually climbed to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer II before retiring after 25 years of military service. In the summer of 1960, he met the love of his life, Nadia Chua Lagumbay, whom he courted and eventually won her heart. On December 12, 1964 the whole entire town of San Juan Kalaayan celebrated their wedding and shortly after went on to have two wonderful children, Robert Lagumbay Fabricante, MSW, in 1968 and Gina Marie Fabricante-Quario, BSN, RN, in 1969. Both loving parents sacrificed blood, sweat, and tears to successfully provide the basics of food, clothing, and shelter. More importantly, the emphasis on education was the pinnacle as both children earned respective college and advanced degrees. Robert, his number #1 son, went onto marry Abigail Adela Fabricante , and their union produced the wonderfully talented grandchildren, Allysa Mia Adela Fabricante, BSN, RN, Isabella Adela Fabricante, BSCE, and Vanessa Adela Fabricante. As for his loving daughter Gina, who went on to marry Joseph William Quario, Jr., and their union produced the brightly gifted grandchildren, Dr. Nicolette Fabricante Quario, PharmD, Dr. Joseph-William Fabricante Quario, PharmD, and Justin Fabricante Quario, BSPH, MPH, CHW.
Gonzalo, aka Fab or Kuya Alo, was a force of nature, determined to provide for the Fabricante family —his loving wife, his children and more importantly, the six grandchildren. He gave them a life full of joy, laughter, and love he felt they deserved. The Fabricante family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned. He was unendingly proud of his son, Robert, aka Bobby, as well as his dedicated daughter Gina, aka Jeans. Most importantly, what he most cherished was the love of his life of more than 60 years, Nadia Lagumbay Fabricante. The love they had stood the test of time. In the end, he always strove to keep family, friends, and faith interconnected together.
During his time of service in the Coast Guard, the motto, Semper Paratus, or "Always Ready", was what prepared him for his first action in Vietnam as a patrol boat gunner. He rose through the ranks to serve on several ships including the USCG Black Hawk, Rush, and Midgett, eventually as a supply officer patrolling the coastlines for drug trafficking, illegal fishing, and most vital, search & rescue.
Gonzalo was also a passionate world culinary chef, learning from culinary institutes such as the Culinary Institute of New Haven. He often could be found creating dishes at well renowned restaurants such as Scandia and Carmel Valley Grill, on the Monterey Peninsula. He also shared his culinary skills in the dietary department at Natividad Hospital where he also served and retired after 12 years.
Anyone who knew Gonzalo knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. Gonzalo was predeceased by Baltazar Fabricante, father, Florentina Asedillo Fabricante, mother, and Benjamin Chua Lagumbay, loving father-in-law.
