Anna Margaret Nielsen Hinchman
July 15, 1930 — March 10, 2025
Anna Margaret Nielsen Hinchman, Age 94, passed away on March 10th, 2025.
Margaret was born on July 15, 1930, in Plentywood, Montana to George and Kristine Nielsen. The Nielsen family moved to Junction City, Oregon in 1948, and Margaret graduated from Junction City High School in 1949. Margaret attended the University of Oregon and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business in 1953.
Margaret met Elbert (Bert) Hinchman in the summer of 1953, and they got married on September 6, 1953. Margaret and Bert were blessed in 1954 with the birth of a daughter Janice Marie.
In the late 60’s, she took a job with the Lane County Property Tax Department. In 1975, she began as an accountant at the University of Oregon Science Department, a position she held until her retirement in 1993.
Throughout her life, family was among Margaret’s most important focuses. In her early life, she assisted in bringing up her six younger brothers and three younger sisters. In her marriage, Margaret was a driving force that kept Bert well and active as he dealt with throat cancer and other medical issues. In the late 80’s and early 90’s, she assisted her daughter Janice in caring for grandsons Thomas and Kevin and relocated to Roseburg with them in 1996. Margaret enjoyed traveling to California and later to Tennessee to visit her daughter Kathy and granddaughter Emily.
Margaret is preceded in death by her husband Bert and daughter Kathy, her father George and mother Kristine, her brother Harvey and sister Clarice and her nephews Richie and Jimmy and her brother Dennis and sister-in-law Janice. Also, nephew Mark Anderson's wife Judy, and Thomas Kolano, (Kathy's husband).
She is survived by her daughter and caregiver Janice Martin, her grandsons Thomas (wife Debbie) and Kevin Krokoski (partner Mary), her granddaughter Emily Kolano Snyder (husband Mark), and her great-grandchildren Justus, Dean, Katarina Bella, Walter Snyder.
Margaret will be buried next to her husband Bert and daughter Kathy, near her father George, mother Kristine, and brother Harvey at The Danish Cemetery in Junction City, Oregon.
