The family of Dennis Edward Ahlstrom regrets to announce his unexpected passing in Eugene, Oregon in mid-February 2013, as a result of a sudden heart attack. He was 64 years of age. A viewing will be held Friday April 10th from 3-5. The immediate family will have a private viewing from 2-3. A memorial service for Dennis will be held at the Willamette National Memorial Cemetery in Portland, Oregon on Monday, April 11, 2013 at 1:00 p.m.He graduated in the top 10% of his class from Marshfield Senior High School in 1966. He attended Southwestern Oregon Community College, and in 1967--1968 served as the Associated Student Government President.Dennis enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Japan during the Viet-Nam conflict, where he served in intelligence. After being honorably discharged, Dennis attended Oregon State University, where he majored in administration, and received two bachelor’s degrees from OSU, one for athletic administration in 1975, and another for health care administration in 1981. While attending OSU, he served as an athletic department intern and as an assistant coach in the women’s softball program.His great, great maternal grandfather, Nathan Huntley Edgerton, received the Congressional Medal of Honor for his valor on the battlefield during the Civil War and as a member of the honor guard during President Lincoln’s funeral. Denny was very proud of his family’s military service history.He is survived by his brothers and their significant others, Gary Ahlstrom and Dianne Light (Grass Valley, California) and Richard Ahlstrom and Raandi Andersen (Cottage Grove, Oregon), his sister and her husband, Nancy Anders-Sterle and Anthony Sterle (Las Vegas, Nevada), his niece and husband, Michelle and “J” Sellers, and their children, Alexander, Lillian, and Quinn (Huntersville, North Carolina), his nephew and wife, Dr. Joseph and Amanda Anders, (Las Vegas, Nevada) ---and a large extended family of cousins and their families. He is preceded in death by his parents, Harold E. Ahlstrom in 1999, and Lillian C. (“Chris”) Ahlstrom in 2006.
