Francis Jacobsen 1922 - 2015 Francis “Jake” Orville Jacobsen passed away peacefully on December 31, 2015 at the age of 93. He was born in Portland, Oregon on February 4, 1922. At the age of three, he was adopted from the Waverly Baby Home by Walter and Lela Jacobsen. He was raised and attended school in Junction City, Oregon. As a teenager, he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). In 1942 he enlisted in the Army Air Corp, which later became the U.S. Air Force. He served during World War II as part of the 967th Bomb Squadron, in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations. He was awarded several medals, including the Bronze Star and Philippine Liberation medal. He was honorably discharged in December of 1945. After leaving the service, he returned to Oregon to attend Northwest Christian College, graduating in 1951. Francis was a man of faith, a devoted Christian and a charter member of the Norkenzie Christian Church. He found great comfort in his church family and enjoyed many different bible study groups throughout the years. He had read the bible in its entirety several times. Francis worked for the Nicolai Door Manufacturing Company for many years before his retirement. He also managed and cared for the rental properties he owned. One of Francis’ most beloved activities was traveling. He had boated most of the water ways in the Western United States and RV’ed the country many times. He enjoyed cruising the Panama Canal and the inside passage of Alaska. He also made many trips to Hawaii. He toured England, Scotland, Wales, Holland, Egypt, Israel, and returned to Okinawa, Japan. He was a kind and giving man, donating generously to many, including the donation of his real estate holdings to his beloved Northwest Christian College. Francis is survived by his granddaughter, Tami Jacobsen Gurnard, her husband, Joe and their sons, Dane and Devyn. He is also survived by his children, Richard, Linda, Laurel and Nancy. “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven.” Luke 6:37. Thank you to all those who offered friendship and kindness to Jake through the years. You were much appreciated and spoken of fondly. May you find peace in Heaven, Grandpa. A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, February 3, 2016 at 1:00 PM at Norkenzie Christian Church, 2530 Crescent Avenue, Eugene, Oregon. Graveside service with military honors to follow at Rest Lawn Memorial Park, Junction City, Oregon.
