Sarah Kathleen Smith
January 27, 1936 — April 21, 2026
Forever in our hearts, Sarah Kathleen Smith (Kathy) passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on April 21st 2026. Kathy was born to Roy Edwin Smith and Myrtle Elizabeth Saunders in Westminster, South Carolina on January 27th 1936. The family would settle in Southern California where Kathy married her High School sweet heart Tommy (Tiger) Smith and raised three children. In 1974 the family moved to Eugene, Oregon. They lived their best lives working and enjoying all the area provided, fishing, crabbing, beach combing, RV camping, gardening and cooking. Kathy enjoyed and supported local theatre productions and was an avid Duck fan. She was a tech enthusiast, and even at 90 she kept up with the latest technology. Boredom was never in her vocabulary, as she was always in pursuit of the next project. She found joy being near water, whether it was trips to the ocean, living on a lake, or a pond, or a view of the Willamette River. To her family and friends she was loving and funny and fun, with an infectious laugh and gentle smiles. Kathy is preceded by her husband Tom Smith, her son Jerry Smith, sister Mary Ellen O'Grady, brother Bobb Smith. She is survived by her daughters Melanie McFarland (Greg) Shelly Hubbard (Skip), Grandchildren Jamie East (Rylan), Maxwell Smith and Josie Hubbard, 5 great grandchildren, two brothers Roger Smith (Ann) Jim Hair and sister Judy Hartman (Ted) and 16 nieces and nephews. Kathy was never comfortable being the center of attention but to us she was the heart and center of our family...her legacy lives on in the next generation and she left us with great stories and a appreciation of a simple life well lived.
