Stanley Harold Lien

Jul 9, 1940 — Jan 17, 2025

Stanley Harold Lien, 84, of Cambridge, Wisconsin passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025, surrounded by his family after a battle with cancer.

A beloved father, grandfather and brother, Stanley will always be remembered for his spirited personality, his willingness to help others and the love for his family.

Born on July 9, 1940, to Howard and Lorraine (Teply) Lien, he grew up on the family farm in the Cambridge area along with siblings Franklin ‘Bud’, Margie, Richard and Donna. Stanley attended Hillside School, then Cambridge High School where he lettered in many sports and met the love of his life, Sharon Smithback. They had their first date at the Sadie Hawkins dance. They were married at First East Koshkonong Lutheran church on December 19, 1959.

Stanley attended UW Platteville where he ran cross country and graduated with a Bachelors of Science Agricultural Education degree. He moved the family to St. Charles, Illinois and worked as a plant supervisor for the Coilform Company until 1973. Stanley and Sharon returned to Wisconsin with their 5 children, where he worked on the family farm in Christiana Township. He was an assessor and town chairman for 14 years. In 2002, he started Hepta Corporation which supplies limestone to the surrounding area.

Stanley held a seat on the Cambridge school board for many years, handing out diplomas to all five children on their graduation day. He was a member and a strong supporter of Cambridge FFA and took pride in the Severson Farm.  He would help with fundraising events and make his famous pickles. He was a proud grandfather, watching his grandchildren participate in many events, offering advice, shouting to them from the sidelines, or handing out ponchos on a rainy day. He always wanted to help, whether it was building a baseball concession stand or making food for the track team.  His hobbies included wood cutting, gardening, cooking, old western movies and making pickles.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sharon and son Steven, as well as his brother Richard, brother-in-law Donald Johnson and niece Sara Johnson.

He will be deeply missed by his daughters Sheryl (Dan) Hensel, Shelley (Dale) Schroedl, Susie (Sean) Currie and Sandy (Scott) DeForest; his grandchildren Derek Schroedl, Garrett Schroedl (Abbey Stinner), Stuart (Kelsey) Lien, Amy Hensel, Steven (Regan) DeForest, Molly Hensel, Sydney Currie, Spencer DeForest (Sarah Hein), Spencer Currie; great grandsons Sawyer and Waylon Lien.

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions may be made to the East Koshkonong Lutheran Church Aagot Borge Fund, Cambridge FFA or Cambridge Fire Department.

Funeral services will be held Monday, January 27, 2025 at 11:00 am with visitation at 9:30 am until time of service at First East Koshkonong Lutheran Church with burial at East Koshkonong Lutheran Church Cemetery. A luncheon will be provided by the family after the service.
