Donald Lee Girton

Donald Lee Girton, 76 of Fort Atkinson, WI passed away at his home on Friday April 11,2025, surrounded by his loving wife, Barb and his caretaker and friend Julia.

Donald was born on April 13, 1948, in Sterling, IL to Donald E. and Gladys (Bressler) Girton. He graduated from Peoria Central High School in 1966 and was proud he served his country in the United States Navy in 1967, and he was honorably discharged in 1968.

He married Jane Glenn on November 9, 1968.  In their 29 years together, they had 4 children who each carry a facet of their dad’s legacy. 

On April 5, 2010, he married Barbara Hanson, a childhood girlfriend he reunited with.

Don followed in his father’s footsteps working as a very successful Area Manager for Gerber Products Company from 1969-1998.

Don was an avid golfer with many tournament awards and accomplishments including two holes-in-one and was on the Board of Directors at Koshkonong Mounds Country Club.  He loved sports and was a beloved Bears fan.  He was a very passionate Neil Diamond fan playing his music often and loud at home and in his company car.

He was a member of Faith community Church participating in bible class and enjoyed Rusty Lyon’s sermons.

He is survived by his wife Barbara of Fort Atkinson, WI; children Angela Mack, Grafton, WI, Marc (Lynn) Girton, Sun Prairie, WI, Melissa Girton, Verona WI; grandchildren David Mack, Joshua (Cassandra) Mack, Timothy Mack, Isabelle Scherer, and Colin Girton; great grandchildren AJ, Logan and Ember Mack.; sister Vickie (Paul) Couri-Flynn, Washington IL.  He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Jodi Girton, brother John Girton (and many of his beloved pet dogs; Mindy, Chewy, Chi Chi, Shannon (Barb’s), Sophie, Cocoa and Sammy).

We would like to thank the Fort Atkinson Fire Department and EMS for their support as well as Rainbow Hospice Care and especially his caretaker Julia for being such a big supporter and helper for Don in his final years.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 12:00pm at Faith Community Church W5949 Hackbarth Rd Fort Atkinson, WI 53538.  A time for fellowship will following the service.
