Terry Roglitz
January 2, 1943 — April 28, 2026
Terry R. Roglitz, 83, passed away at home on April 28th after several years of failing health. Terry was born in Janesville, WI on January 2nd, 1943 to Stanley and Anita Roglitz. He graduated from Fort Atkinson High School and UW-Whitewater earning a Bachelors and Masters degree in Education. He married his High School sweetheart, Patricia, and they celebrated their 60th anniversary last year.
Terry began his teaching career in Whitewater, but spent the last 30 years of his career teaching 8th grade science at JF Luther Junior High. He loved his students and we often heard, “I ran into an old student of mine today”. He also coached basketball and baseball in his early teaching days.
Terry’s life was well-lived and he loved sharing his many outdoor passions with others. He spent many years bird hunting out west and proudly fished at Rex Tolton’s in Canada for 50 consecutive years and three generations of owners. He was past President of the Wisconservation Club, a member of Duck’s Unlimited and taught 1000 kids through their Hunter Safety certification.
Terry was widely known for his Labrador Retrievers and helped many people find the right dog over the years. He is a lifetime member and past President of the Madison Retriever Club and he and Pat travelled the country competing in Field Trials. Two of his dogs achieved the title of Field Champion. He also worked for 50 years at MRC field trials - another streak. When Terry loved something, he stuck with it.
After retirement, Terry started his next chapter of life when he joined Milford Hills Hunt Club and became a pheasant guide with his dogs for 17 years. What a dream job to get paid to hunt with his dogs! He also enjoyed his weekly outings to shoot sporting clays with his friends. He was a long time friend of the owners.
Terry is survived by his wife Pat; daughter Marti (Mike) Elder; granddaughters Lauren and Emily Elder; sisters-in-law Gayle Bottlemy, Susie (Ken) Iverson and Trudy MacLaurin. He is preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Anita Roglitz; his brother Gordy Roglitz; his in-laws Robert and Irene MacLaurin; brothers-in-law Mike (Carolyn) and Jim MacLaurin.
The family would like to specially thank his physician, Dr. Steve Riggs, and the wonderful care providers from Rainbow Hospice, who gave him compassionate care in his final weeks.
Services will be held at Nitardy Funeral Home, 1008 Madison Ave., Fort Atkinson, Friday, May 8th, 2026 12:00PM - 3:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Rainbow Hospice rainbowcommunitycare.org.
