Melvin Gene Durr

Melvin Gene Durr, 67, of Eaton, Colorado, passed away at home on July1, 2025, with his wife by his side. Although Mel had several health conditions that affected him throughout his life, he pursued his interests and careers for as long as he was able.
Melvin was born in Greeley, Colorado to Kenneth and Dorothy (Slapper) Durr on August 10, 1957. He was the oldest of 3 children. His brother, David Durr, lives in Caldwell, Idaho and his sister, Barbara Durr, lives in Greeley.
Mel graduated in 1975 from Greeley West High School in Greeley, Co, and then began a winding and fulfilling career path. After high school he went to work for Harsh’s Steel and then did a brief stint with the Colorado State Patrol. He was the proud owner of Moray Divers and as a scuba instructor, taught many in the area to scuba dive. He was a member of the Greeley Fire Department for 8 years until his desire to be a truck driver prevailed. He became the owner/operator of Double D Trucking, leased on with Landstar, HVH, Big Red Enterprises until his medical retirement.
Mel had many interests in life and pursued each with gusto. He was an avid gun owner and loved dressing in western wear where he participated in black power shooting. He was a motocross enthusiast and competed in his early 20’s. He was a life-long learner and an insatiable reader who became very knowledgeable about a vast array of subjects. He liked to work on all types of vehicles and motorcycles. He loved to watch all sports. His favorite thing to do every day was to sit outside on the porch with his dog and drink coffee.
Mel was known as a “People Person.” If you knew Mel, you knew him to be a man of his word. He would help anyone anytime with anything, being generous with his time. He was kind and loving. He was a teacher, mechanic, and mentor to his kids and their friends. He was a sports fan, especially baseball and football.
Mel is survived by his wife Marcy Morris of Eaton, his brother David Durr, His sister Barbara Durr, his children; Evan (Kacey) Morris of Akron, Kaytlin (Michael) Morris of Greeley, Tristan (Elisabeth) Morris, Kellie Mansfield of Briggsdale, 9 grandchildren; Shelby, Gabe, Riley, Aaron, Lucy, John, Rexx, Cheyanne, and Arial, a nephew Benjamin (Linda) Perry; 1 grandnephew Liam; 2 grandnieces; Adalynn and Breyah.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his son Dylan Morris.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 4:00pm at the Eaton Recreation Center, 1675 3rd St, Eaton, Co, 80615
