Dr. Andrei Simic, Professor of Anthropology at the University of Southern California, died on December 26, 2017 in Phoenix, Arizona. He had been ill for several months with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and succumbed after a number of hospitalizations and medical interventions. Dr. Simic was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Fleur ('Didi') Simic Wallace. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Maria Budisavljevic Oparnica Simic, Whom he married in 1997; a daughter, Denee Ana Simic, from his first marriage; and a daughter Alisha Saveta Dagis (Andrew), from his second marriage; and a step-son, James A. Struckmeyer III. He is also survived by a niece, Nova Wallace Alfert, and three nephews, Andrei Wallace, Anthony Wallace and Gerald Wallace and their families, as well as several relatives in former Yugoslavia. Requiem Service for Dr. Andrei Simic will be held 11:00 am, Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at the Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, 1700 School Street, Moraga, California 94556, with interment to follow at Sunset View Cemetery in El Cerrito. A communal memorial meal at the Holy Trinity Church hall will follow, and all mourners are invited. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Holy Trinity Church or a charity of choice.
