Barbara Lee Smith Bragg
March 10, 1928 — May 24, 2026
Barbara Lee Smith Bragg passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24th at her daughter’s home in Antioch, California. She was born March 10, 1928 in Berkeley, California to Jesse E. Smith and Rose Minnie Thomas. She married James M. Bragg Jr. on June 26, 1948. They had three children James (Terry), Janee (Courtney-(deceased), and Michelle (deceased). Barbara had 15 grandchildren (including spouses -she considered them also her grandchildren), and 18 great grandchildren with two on the way.
Most of all Barbara valued her family, friends, the gospel of Jesus Christ, and showing service for others. Things were not that important to her, but people were. She served as Primary President and many other callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and as the Captain in a Daughter of Utah Pioneers Camp. She had an infectious smile, and a great sense of humor. She enjoyed writing stories of joyful moments in her life. She loved being outside in nature, gardening, camping, and exploring new places on the back of her husband’s motorcycle. Birds (especially hummingbirds) and flowers, brought her much joy. If the hummingbird feeders were empty, the hummingbirds would come to the window looking for Barbara, and she would then refill the feeder. All that knew her will remember her as one of the kindest and loving souls. She never wanted much for herself but always gave to others. For someone so small in stature she had the biggest heart. She will truly be missed but will always be with us.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 9th at 1:30 pm at the Oakmont Memorial Park, 2099 Reliez Valley Road, Lafayette, California
