Darlene Jo Temple
February 7, 1935 — June 10, 2022
Our loving mother, Darlene Temple passed away on Friday afternoon, June 10th in her 87th year. She was doing what she loved best - sitting in her rocking chair on her patio in the sun and counting her blessings this was her happy spot.
Mom was the youngest of three sisters raised in Berkley California by her Slovenian-born mother and Canadian-born father. She attended San Jose State College and worked at Yosemite National Park in the summers. It was in Yosemite, after a whirlwind courtship, that she met and became the loving wife of Oscar Temple for the next 57 years.
Darlene and Oscar were wonderful parents to three children, Greg, Lorraine and Bradley. They spent most of their lives in the Bay Area and were blessed with many friends through the decades.
Mom was truly loved by all, and had deep friendships she cherished. She had a creative side, always adding homey touches to the house. She enjoyed her garden, crafts, yearly camping trips to Lake Trinity, fundraising for cancer, as well as other volunteer activities.
Mom was an avid walker, going for hours with friends as well as daily lap swimming in summers. More than anything, she loved just being in the warmth of the sun and outside, which is exactly where she was in the end.
Dad passed in 2013, and Mom remained in their Walnut Creek home and was eager to move into the new Viamonte Senior Living opening just a mile from her home. Mom became one of the first residents in December 2020, and was enormously grateful for the friendship and support she found in her new community.
She is survived by her son, Gregory Temple and her daughter, Lorraine Temple. She is predeceased by her husband, Oscar Temple and her son, Bradley Temple. Mom lives on in our hearts and will forever be missed.
A memorial service will be held at Oak Park Hills Chapel on Saturday, June 18th at 1:00 PM. The chapel is at 3111 N. Main Street, Walnut Creek CA 94597 and all are welcome.
