Allan (Al) Barnett, 75, of Davenport, FL, passed away on May 27, 2026. He was born on June 4, 1950, in Corona, New York, to Joseph and Sylvia (Trezzo) Barnett. Al was a proud United States Navy veteran, serving active duty in Guantanamo Bay followed by time in the engine room on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, the second of three Midway - Class aircraft carriers for 4 years, ending with 2 years in the reserves. He was honorably discharged at the rank of E-3 and received the National Defense Service Medal. Following his military service, he dedicated over 40 years of his professional life to the phone company (Verizon) starting as a splicer, moving up to engineering management, retiring in 2008. In 2015, he moved to Florida from Levittown, New York.

Al had a deep appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed Coca-Cola drinks, bowling, jigsaw puzzles, and golf. He loved model trains and building model cars, alongside his grandchildren. A devoted NASCAR fan, he especially admired Richard Petty. Those who knew him described him as a quiet man with a quick wit, a gentle soul, and an easygoing personality who didn’t let the small things in life bother him and brought a calm presence to those around him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Sylvia Barnett, and his brother, Joseph Barnett. Al leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 39 years, Mary Barnett; son, Edward Barnett and wife, Daniela of Farmingdale, NY; daughter, Jessika (Barnett) Axtell and husband Jason of Davenport, FL; sister, Barbara Barnett of Astoria NY; sister-in-law, Pauline Barnett of New Jersey; Brother-in-law Brian Dixon and wife Kathy of Stuart Manor NY; four beloved grandchildren, Edward Jr., Nicolas, Jaxon, and Lennox and an abundance of nieces and nephews.

There are no services scheduled at this time. Memorial contributions may be made in Al’s honor to the Disabled American Veterans, in recognition of his service and dedication to his country.
