J.D. Hancock, a cherished husband, devoted father, and beloved member of the Haines City community, passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, in Haines City, Florida, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 9, 1937, in Inverness, Florida, to Lee Albert Hancock and Daisy Leola Trowell Hancock, both of whom preceded him in death.
Throughout his 88 years of life, J.D. exemplified kindness, dedication, and deep love for his family. His wisdom, integrity, and selfless spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew him. J.D. was known for his unwavering support, quiet strength, and unyielding devotion to those he loved. He was a proud member of the United States Navy, where he served as a chef/baker and he was a truck driver, driving for Boise Cascade. He loved to spend time with his family and to go hunting and fishing. J.D. was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church.
He shared 20 years of companionship with his devoted wife, Myra Hancock, together building a family grounded in comfort, warmth, and enduring love. J.D.’s legacy lives on in each of his children: Kenny Hancock and his wife, Debbie of Haines City, FL, Jimmy Hancock, Jr. and his wife, Pam of Davenport, FL, Jackie Hancock of Davenport, FL, Melinda Becker of Davenport, FL, Beverly Odom of Tennessee, and Marilyn Zamora and her husband, Bubba of Lake Wales, FL; as well as 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son, Bobby Hancock, for whom he held a lasting place in his heart.
He is also mourned by the memory of his parents and his son, Bobby Hancock, whose loss he endured with resilience and grace. J.D.’s steadfast commitment to family was a guiding light, and he now joins those who have gone before him in eternal peace.
J.D.’s life will be honored with a public viewing on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Oak Ridge Funeral Care - Haines City, located at 1001 E Grace Ave, Haines City, FL 33844. A second time for viewing will be Friday the 24th from 11 am until the funeral service celebrating his remarkable life at 12:00 p.m., also at Oak Ridge Funeral Care - Haines City.
J.D. Hancock’s legacy of love and kindness will endure in the hearts of his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a testament to the enduring power of family and community, and he will be deeply missed.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
