Mary A. Tunis
May 6, 1932 — February 20, 2023
Mary Ann Tunis, an 86-year resident of Michigan and a longtime member of the Church of Christ, was born and raised in Warren Township. Since 2018, she has been residing at the Water’s Edge Assisted Living facility in Lake Wales, FL. She peacefully left this life on the night of February 20, 2023, at Good Shepherd Hospice in Sebring. She was born on May 6, 1932, to Henry Seguin and Irene Smith. She was 90 years of age at her passing.
Mary Ann did not have employment outside of the home, but was a full-time wife, housekeeper, cook, and mother to a husband and six wonderful daughters. In the early years of her marriage, Mary Ann lived the life of a fireman’s wife. In their spare time, she and her husband worked with the church youth. After Chuck’s retirement, she took on the role as a loving grandma and farmer’s wife. Having moved from the city to a working farm, where she took to baking and canning, crocheting, visiting with friends, working at the local Church of Christ in Cass City, tending a garden, acquiring a job with a local catering company and hosting numerous gatherings for a weekend fish fry and holidays with the ever-growing family. At the age of 60 she began driving after getting a driver’s license.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, Charles E. Tunis; her parents, five brothers, Archie (Hank) Smith, Raymond (Ray) Seguin, Maurice (Morris) Seguin, Melvin Seguin, and infant Clifford Seguin; four sisters, Geraldine Hein, Betty Jackson, Barbara Lynn, and infant Katie Seguin. She is survived by a brother, William Seguin (Judy) of Warren, MI; a sister, Helen Oakley (Woody) of Leesburg, FL; six daughters, Carol Steele (Larry) of Waunakee, WI, Dorothy Fowler (Robert) of Southgate, MI, Shirley Touchton (Glen) of Hamilton, IN, Mary Jane Windsor (Bill) of Winter Haven, FL, Lorraine Holder (Keith) of Akron OH, Judy Uhas (John) of New Port Richey, FL; six grandchildren, Josette Fowler, Heather Coon, Jonathan Uhas, Billy Windsor III, Sarah Windsor, Andy Windsor; eight great-grandchildren, Evan Coon, Zachary LeBeau, Brandon LeBeau, Gabriel LeBeau, Elizabeth LeBeau; Braden Windsor, Emma Windsor, and Lillie Windsor.
A visitation will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 10.00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Funeral Care in Haines City, FL. Interment will be at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. Donations may be made to Cornerstone Hospice through their website at Cornerstonehospice.org and clicking on the donate button.
