Cecil Powell

April 24, 1926 — May 18, 2025

It is with a sense of gratitude that we remember the life of Cecil Powell, whose 99 years were filled with love, adventure, and kindness. A devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and great-grandfather, Cecil leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and quiet strength. He was happy to serve his country, his community, his family, and anyone lucky enough to be invited to a fish-fry at his home.

Born on April 24, 1926, Cecil proudly served in the United States Navy, as a volunteer firefighter, and as Mayor of Dundee, Florida. He spent his professional career as a truck driver and transportation supervisor for Scotty's Home Improvement, earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike.  Cecil passed peacefully, surrounded by his family on May 18, 2025 at Water’s Edge Assisted Living Facility in Lake Wales.

Cecil found his greatest joy in being with family and in the great outdoors. He loved camping trips, fishing in Central Florida lakes, and hunting in the Ocala National Forest. These simple pleasures brought him happiness, and he shared them generously with those he loved.

Cecil is survived by his beloved wife of 76 years, Mildred Powell; his daughter, Debbie Duncan, two grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren who will carry forward his wisdom and strength through the lessons he imparted, the stories he loved to tell, and the happy memories he created.

A gathering of friends and family will be held at the Orchid Springs clubhouse, Saturday May 24, 2:00-3:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Vitas Hospice and moments of quiet reflection in nature—a place Cecil always loved.
