Robert George Lahmon

January 27, 1931 — April 14, 2026

Robert George Lahmon (“Bob”), age 95, a longtime resident of Lake Alfred, Florida, passed away on April 14, 2026, at George C. Forsyth Hospice House at Good Shepherd in Auburndale, Florida.

Bob was born on January 27, 1931, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, to Clarence C. Lahmon and Bess Steinmetz Lahmon. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Thelma Elizabeth Lahmon; his stepson, Rodney W. Williamson of Clearwater, Florida; and his brother and sister-in-law, C. Williams Lahmon and Charlotte Lahmon of Chillicothe, Ohio.

He is survived by his stepson and daughter-in-law, Daryl and Sandra Williamson of Morehead, Kentucky; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Growing up during the Great Depression, Bob learned the value of hard work. Raised in Ohio, he worked on his grandparents’ farm and delivered newspapers before and after school, doing what was needed to help make ends meet.

During high school, he worked at auto service stations washing cars and pumping gas. By his senior year in 1949, he had saved enough to purchase a new Studebaker coupe. He later sold the car and enrolled at The Ohio State University. Shortly before classes were to begin, he returned home and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.

After his enlistment, he saved his money and purchased a small auto service station of his own. When the Korean War broke out, he was recalled to active duty in the Marine Corps.

Over the years, Bob ventured into many businesses and was known for his strong work ethic, often working from early to late, seven days a week. In later years, he found it challenging when his health limited the pace he had long maintained. He remained mentally sharp to the end, with a gift for doing math in his head. He had a keen mind for business and finances and valued his independence.

Bob will be remembered for his determination and for doing things in his own way. Disciplined and frugal, he went without things he felt were too expensive. He often said that he saved his money and paid cash throughout his life, never having a cent of interest on anything.

He was a proud member of the Greatest Generation.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Ridge Funeral Care, 2425 W. Havendale Blvd., Winter Haven, Florida. Burial will take place at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, with military honors.
