Maxine R. Ellis, 96,passed away on June 11, 2026 under the care of Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. Born in Greensboro, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Cora (Dobbs) Rodgers and the wife of Eugene S. Ellis.
She is survived by her children, Merle Ellis (Sylvia), Katherine Jarvis (Wallace), Clifford Ellis (Wanda), and Jeanne Tyndall and7 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Wallace Rodgers and sister Justine Gibson.
She was retired from Wesley Long Hospital and spent much of her retirement as an avid orchid enthusiast. She often had a greenhouse full of cattleya orchid blossoms and was generous in gifting plants to friends and family and enjoyed seeing others appreciate them.
She also enjoyed sewing and machine embroidery projects and sewed many dresses for her daughters when they were children.
The family would like to offer special thanks to longtime friends and neighbors Renata and Michael Meanie for their support and friendship throughout the years.

The family will have a graveside memorial at 2pm on Wednesday, June 24 at Reedy Fork Baptist Church, 4709 Yanceyville Street, Browns Summit, NC 27214.
