Catherine "Cathie" Thomas Murphy

Winston Salem, NC - Catherine Thomas Murphy, 91, passed away on May 5, 2026. She was born on November 13, 1934, in Chester County, PA to the late C. Arthur and Katheryn Brag Thomas.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in her death by her husband, Larry Kermitt Murphy, and a brother.

She is survived by her 4 children. John Murphy (Jen), Larry Murphy Jr (Renee), David Murphy (Elizabeth Ann), Sheri Murphy Simpson (Kevin); 7 Grandchildren,11 Great-Grandchildren, and 1 Great-Great Grandchild.

Cathie traveled from PA to Atlanta, GA to marry Larry K Murphy. She lived and worked in Atlanta as a Registered Radiology Technician until 1969. From there the family moved to KY and then to NC where she spent about the last 35 years working at Forsyth Medical Center. There she made many dear friends she enjoyed traveling with through the years. She also loved volunteering with her church family from First Baptist Church of Kernersville. She loved her family more than anything and always treasured the times when they could all gather in her home for the holidays. Cathie was known for her green thumb, and she loved her many beautiful flowers and plants.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 10, 2026 from 4-6 pm at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Service, 213 West Mountain Street, Kernersville, NC.  A Funeral Service will be held Monday, May 11, 2026 at 11:00 am at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Service.  Burial will follow in Eastlawn Gardens of Memory in Kernersville, NC.

In lieu of flowers, Cathie's family has requested donations be made directly to the American Heart Association, 5001 S. Miami Blvd, Suite 300, Durham, North Carolina 27703.
