Dock Brooks, 85, of Kernersville, N.C., died Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020, in Winston-Salem. He was born Sept. 1, 1935 in Jesse, W.V., the son of late Wiley and Margaret Brooks. Dock was the 8th of 13 children. He graduated from Oceana High School in 1953. On July 15, 1962, he married Mervin Omera Douglas in Trenton, Fla. She followed him in death three days later on December 8, 2020, after 58 years of marriage. Dock served 20 years as a communication technician in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1975. After his retirement from the military, he was employed by various government contractors, where he worked in Greenland, the United Kingdom, North Carolina and Maryland. He and Omera retired to Florida before eventually moving back to North Carolina. Dock was a member of Triad Baptist Church in Kernersville. He was a proud veteran who loved to listen to music, read (especially westerns), work in the yard, tinker with things and watch sports. Dock is survived by his daughter, Julie Brooks of Linden, N.C.; son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Sarah Brooks of Marlow, Okla.; five grandchildren, Matthew, Maggie, Mark, Micah and Max, all of Marlow; two brothers, Lewey Brooks of Cleveland, Ohio and Dewey Brooks of Indiana. He served 20 years as a communication technician in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1975. He and Omera retired to Florida before eventually moving back to North Carolina. He was a member of Triad Baptist Church in Kernersville. A military funeral will be held for Dock and Omera at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, N.C., 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 15, 2021.
