Erkki Ilmari Mikkola

Erkki Ilmari Mikkola, 75, of Kernersville, NC passed away peacefully Monday, June 28, 2021. A native of Finland, Erkki was the husband of Karin Mikkola and the son of the late Yrjo Mikkola and Eine Niemi Mikkola. Erkki loved to fish and cherished his memories of fishing with his grandfather in Finland. He spent many years in trucking where he was able to visit all States within the Continental U.S. Through his travels, Erkki came to love North Carolina and after retiring from trucking he made Kernersville his home while developing Mikkola Downs. Survivors include his wife, Karin; son, Peter Eric Mikkola; daughter, Lisa Mikkola Buzzard and husband, Mark; and granddaughter, Evelina Carol Buzzard. An open house celebration gathering will be held at their home from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 22, 2021. This will be a time of remembrance of Erkki’s life and a time of sharing what would have been their 50 years of marriage on August 19, 2021.
