James Clifford Drye, Sr., 74, of Walkertown, NC passed away peacefully Friday, May 21, 2021.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2021 at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Jeff Coppley and Rev. Mike Ledbetter officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will greet friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday prior to the service at the church.
A native of Rowan County, NC, James was the husband of 40 years to Bonnie Sue Day Drye and the son of the late Claude Alexander Drye, Sr. and Mary Lou Shaver Drye. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force. James coached Little League Baseball in Walkertown for many years. He was the Scout Master of Troop 922 at Morris Chapel from 1989 to 1997. James was a long-time faithful member at Morris Chapel United Methodist Church. He loved being an active spectator and supporter of his grandchildren’s sporting events and extracurricular activities. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who loved fishing and spending time with his family at their beach home at Emerald Isle, NC.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie of the home; daughter, Angie Drye McCann and husband, Tim of Kernersville, NC; sons, James Clifford Drye, Jr. and wife, Kimberly of Clemmons, NC, and Joseph Clay Drye and wife, Lea of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandchildren, James Michael Drye, Sr. and Nina Vargas, Carson McCann, Brandon Drye, London McCann, Ella Drye, and Aurora Drye; great grandson, James Michael Drye, Jr.; sister, Nancy Caudle; and brother, Claude Alexander Drye, Jr. and wife, Nancy.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Miller.
