Katherine Koone Richardson

Katherine K. Richardson, 89, of Winston-Salem, NC passed away on December 24, 2022 at Trellis Supportive Care in Winston-Salem, NC. A native of La Grange, GA, she was the daughter of the late Clinton and Clorine Koone and wife of the late Willis "Bill" Richardson. She was a lifelong caregiver. Her loving, servant spirit shined through to each and every family member and all of the patients that she cared for during her nursing career. She taught her children that Jesus was the center of every thought and action in our lives. She was an active member of Bethany Baptist Church in Winston-Salem for 30+ years. In recent years, she was a member at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Kernersville, NC. Katherine loved to sew and made dresses for herself, Kelly, and Kathy as well as Kathy's wedding gown. She would also make matching ties for her husband. She was known for her tiresome efforts in frying fish that her husband would catch and never complaining about the messes that he would make. The family would always enjoy her famous red velvet cake for Christmas, birthdays, and Thanksgiving. Katherine is survived by her children, Kathy Vanhoy, Ray Richardson and wife, Vickie, and Kelly Isley and husband, Terry; her six grandchildren; her twelve great-grandchildren; her sister, Mary Burnette; and her sister-in-law, Jewel Voliva. In addition to her parents, Katherine was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Richardson; her grandson, Taylor Vanhoy; her five brothers; and her son-in-law, Jim Vanhoy. The family will receive friends at Pierce-Jefferson Kernersville Chapel, 213 West Mountain Street, Kernersville, NC 27284 on Thursday, December 29, 2022 from 5:00PM - 7:00PM. Graveside funeral services and interment will be at Gardens of Memory in Walkertown, NC on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at 11:00AM with Rev. Heath Faircloth officiating. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt special thank you to her caregiver, Barbara Williams, and Visiting Angels.
