Roger Dale Whisenant
May 10, 1943 — April 1, 2021
Roger Dale Whisenant, 77, of Kernersville, NC went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Thursday, April 1, 2021.
Roger was the youngest of 7 children, born and raised on his family farm in Alamance County, NC. He married Mary Harris in 1962 and relocated his family to Kernersville in 1973. He worked at Pilot Freight Carriers for 16 years and then went on to drive a truck for Leggett & Platt, retiring in 2009 after 26 years of service.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents Floyd and Myrtle Whisenant and his 6 older siblings. He is survived by Mary and their sons Steve Whisenant (Toni Newman) and Randall Whisenant (Michelle); daughter Amy Tucker (Darin) and grandchildren Tyler Whisenant, Chris Whisenant (Morgan), Maddie Whisenant, and Evan Tucker.
Roger was a car enthusiast and enjoyed showing his 1952 Chevrolet Bel Air Custom Deluxe while participating in car shows alongside his constant and devoted friends. He had a knack for working on anything mechanical and repaired many small engines for family and friends. His ‘farm boy’ roots developed his physical strength and hard-working nature and instilled a strong work ethic in his kids. His renewed commitment to Christ developed a spiritual strength that will forever encourage and inspire his family to live out their faith.
Roger’s family would like to acknowledge the love and support of all of his friends including his late, good friend Bobby Martin and surviving wife Helen. We are forever grateful to Jeff and Darla Sprague for their spiritually driven and devoted friendship to our dad.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Roger’s honor to the charities he lovingly supported: St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Operation Smile, World Vision, Shriners Hospital or your charity of choice.
