Carol Rhea Myers

May 28, 1946 — March 8, 2025

With deep sorrow we announce that Carol Rhea Myers has died from complications due to dementia. Carol was born in Bryan, TX on May 28, 1946 and died at home in Centennial, CO surrounded by her family and her favorite music on Saturday, March 8th. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years, Mike Myers (neither the 60s super spy nor the iconic horror movie villain)” and both parents, Gordon and Molly Buffington. Carol and her brother Mark grew up in the oil fields of the Permian Basin where her father Gordon (a Bronze Star awarded first sergeant in the army during WWII) was a horticulturist for Texas A&M. Carol attended Lubbock Christian College in Lubbock, TX where she met and fell in love with Mike Myers. The two married in Jal, NM on August 19, 1967. Before Gordon would allow Mike his blessing, he made Mike promise to be sure Carol completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Education, which she did as a young wife at West Texas A&M in Canyon, TX. Carol taught elementary school until their oldest daughter Cari came along.

In 1969, Mike volunteered in youth ministry at Broadway Church of Christ and with Carol by his side began a career as one of the first full-time youth ministers in the Churches of Christ. In 1973, Mike and Carol and their first child Cari moved to Littleton, CO where Mike began working for the Littleton Church of Christ. This hire made him the first CoC youth minister in Colorado. Carol attended every youth group retreat, camping trip, summer camp, service project and bible study alongside Mike for years. Over the following decades, Carol had two more daughters, Holly and Amanda, and two nieces, Lisa and Robin who became like daughters. Carol earned a reputation as a compassionate mentor, giver, friend, teacher and encourager; it is difficult to find someone who has not received a cheesy greeting card, care package or strawberry bread at Christmas from Carol

Carol will be cremated, and the family will hold a memorial service at the Littleton Church of Christ on Saturday, March 22 2025 to mourn and celebrate Carol’s life together. Carol has been a constant joy and support in our lives, the gravitational center of our family. She is the one who remembered and organized holidays, birthdays, weddings and anniversaries. She is now at home in the place that Jesus prepared for her. We are now practicing in our sorrow what she taught and modeled for us; to grieve with hope.

Carol is survived by her three daughters: Cari Myers (Los, Angeles, CA); Holly Myers (Denver, CO); and Amanda Myers (Colorado Springs, CO). She is also survived by her nieces: Lisa Dye and her husband Stansell, and Robin Hess (Nashville, TN). Carol also leaves behind 3 grandchildren: Amanda Myers, Ryann Myers, and Henry Mattson, as well as one grandniece, Laurel Shinehouse, two grandnephews, Garrett Dye and Andrew Hess, and her first great-grandniece, Navy James Shinehouse.

Carol will be dearly missed, but her legacy lives on in the life of the Littleton Church and beyond. A legacy we as believers are happy to be a part of through the mission of the gospel of Jesus Christ our Lord. Wherever you may be reading this, in whatever church or whatever place you find yourself, live Mike and Carol’s ministry by following Jesus, loving God, and loving people.
