Robert Roy Hatcher

Bob was born and grew up in Tacoma, Washington. He had a lifelong love of music and played both piano and trumpet. At Stadium High School he was a member of the band and a six-piece group called The Beachcombers. During college he played trumpet in a trio at ski resorts.

With intentions of becoming a doctor, he attended the University of Puget Sound and the University Washington where he was a member of Phi Kappa Sigma. He graduated in 1961 from the University of Washington School of Pharmacy instead, and for over forty years was manager and then part owner of several drug stores in the Seattle area. In 1976 he was elected to the board of managers of the Washington State Pharmaceutical Association and in 1989 served on the School of Pharmacy Admissions Committee for the University of Washington.

On June 26, 1959, he married Maxine (Mickie) Harding and the couple raised three boys: David, Jim and John. The family skied and enjoyed motor and sail boating. Bob worked long and irregular hours at his stores but fondly recalled being able to watch cartoons with the boys before work. When they were older, he joined them in Indian Guides and was their high school soccer coach. Bob served proudly for six years with medical units in the National Guard and Air Force Reserves.

He and Mickie moved to Westbrook Village in Peoria, Arizona in 1991 when Bob retired, only to work part time for Walgreens for many years after. His arrangement with Walgreens was to have summers off which allowed them to travel extensively with the Westbrook Roadrunners RV club. Bob was very active in the Westbrook Tennis Club and the hiking club and joined the Elks Club. Having grown up on the water, he was always happy to be fishing the many state lakes with his buddies. In 2021 Bob achieved one of his life goals of fly fishing in some of the best spots in the West.

In 2016 the couple moved to Sierra Winds Retirement Community where Mickie passed away on December 8, 2018. On May 17, 2021, Bob married a fellow resident and dear friend, Gloria Sannermark. For the next three years he and Gloria were able to travel by truck and camper to visit family and friends over much of the country.

Bob became a member of Faith Presbyterian Church where his friendly, gentle and genuine caring manner was a blessing in serving as a Deacon and usher. In 2024 he and Gloria moved to Freedom Plaza Retirement Community where he once again took up piano lessons and discovered the ukulele. Bi-weekly practice and performances with the

Freedom Plaza Ukers became a great joy for him and encouraged spontaneous bouts of singing and piano playing at home. Friends as far back as grade school were never forgotten and every Wednesday morning he tried to catch the zoom meeting of former neighbors, the "Northwest Group." Many hours were spent at his computer creating cards for family, friends and others that were always thoughtful and personal. If a game for 'our team'...his or his son's alma maters ...was being televised, Bob was there, often with his phone at hand for long distance commentaries. Bob enjoyed reading and was a member of the Great Decisions discussion group at their residence.

Bob's departure from our midst on July 3, 2026, was sudden and unexpected. However, he was surrounded by his wife, Gloria, his three sons, and the prayers of beloved family and friends all over the country. He leaves his sister, Donna Mattern and niece Heidi Mattern of Port Townsend, WA, his wife, Gloria of Peoria, AZ, sons David (Kim) of Snohomish, WA, Jim of Scottsdale, AZ and John of Sand Point, ID. and two step-children, Robin Blodgett of Anderson, IN and Keith (Diane) Blodgett of Colorado Springs, Co. In addition, he leaves his pride and joy: six grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren plus four step grandchildren and six step- great-grandchildren.

Bob had a shepherd's heart. His upbeat, positive spirit, his kind and caring nature and his love for his family and music are irreplaceable but they will live on as his legacy for all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
