Daniel J. Chavez

He did things his way… whether it made sense or not—and somehow, that made us love him even more.

Daniel J. “Danny” Chavez, beloved brother, uncle, nephew, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2026, at the age of 65.

Danny was born and raised in Los Padillas, New Mexico, where he lived his entire life. He was known for his warm smile, his humor that often came when you least expected it, and his strong, stubborn spirit. Funny without trying to be, Danny had a way of saying things that left people laughing long after.

He showed his love through simple acts of kindness… whether it was opening gates, bringing firewood when the weather turned cold, checking on vehicles, or asking if you were hungry and wanting to share a meal. He loved food, especially pizza, burritos, tacos, and sweets, and enjoyed the comfort of home, working on vehicles, and watching Gunsmoke. 

Danny shared a special bond with his loyal companion, Barney, his dog, who was always by his side and brought him comfort each day. 

He valued time with family and made people feel cared for, appreciated, and at ease. He was resilient, faithful, and devoted to those he loved.

He is survived by his brother, James Chavez and wife Elisabeth; his nephew James Chavez and wife Pamella, and their children James, Daniel, and Rhiannon; his nephew Mario Chavez and wife Tiffany, and their children Nicholas, Alexia, and Chevelle; his nephew David Chavez and partner Guillermo Rascon; his niece Sarah Chavez; and his uncle, Sotelo Padilla, along with extended family and friends who will miss him deeply.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Teresita Chavez, and father, Mariano Chavez, and is now reunited with them at home in heaven.

A service to honor Danny’s life will be held on a March 28, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Ascension, 2150 Raymac Rd SW, Albuquerque, NM 87105.

Danny will be remembered for his humor, his generosity, and the love he gave so freely.
