On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, David Huerta, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, inAlbuquerque, New Mexico.

David Huerta was born on November 5, 1952, in Ignacio Allenda, Durango, Mexico, to Feliciana Zamaniego and Domingo Huerta. David was the youngest born into a large family of brothers and sisters. David immigrated to the United States over 54 years ago and settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He later met his future wife, Consuelo “Connie” Gallegos.

In Mexico, David's profession was an Accountant. In the United States, his profession was in both construction and landscaping. David learned to speak, read, and write in English by watching television, reading books, and magazines. He taught himself how to drive and eventually received his driver’s license. David was in the United States illegally until he decided to get his citizenship. For nearly two years, he checked out library books and studied on his own. Twenty years after he immigrated to the United States illegally, David took the citizenship test and passed on his very first try, becoming a United States citizen.

David was preceded in death by his mother Feliciana, his father Domingo, and his brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Connie Gallegos Huerta; his daughters, Doreen Huerta, Deedee Ray and her husband Andy Ray, and stepdaughter, Sandra Montoya; and grandsons Joseluis Zamarron, and Richard Anthony Medina.

A memorial service, with a rosary prayer, celebrating David’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Riverside Funeral Home located at 225 San Mateo Blvd NE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. A reception will follow at 3 p.m. at the home of Andy and Deedee Ray on the Westside of Albuquerque.
