Debra S. Donis
December 24, 1950 — June 3, 2017
Debra Susan Donis nee Fortenberry, 66, of Edgewood, New Mexico passed away on Saturday June 3, 2017 following complications due to a stroke. She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Jim; sons Scott and his wife Sarah, and Brett and his wife Cynthia; daughter Kim and her husband Matt; her mother Artimease; grandsons Prentice, Jonah, Brett Jr., and Caleb; granddaughters Carolina, Abigail, Autumn, Meghan, and Caitlyn.
Debbi was born in Hobbs, New Mexico but grew up in Joliet, Illinois. Debbi was passionate about children. She spent ten years working and running the computer lab at Matheson Park Elementary school in Albuquerque. She loved to share stories and photos of all of her grandchildren and school kids. Debbi and Jim also enjoyed visiting their children and grandchildren while traveling in their RV.
In retirement, Debbi loved to spend a large portion of the year with her "extended family" in Kino Bay Mexico where Jim and Debbi made friends from across North America. She loved to walk the sandy beaches with her beloved dogs, Oreo and Darby, enjoy themed dinners, and coordinate newsletters and membership for Club Deportivo there.
Debbi is remembered best for her beautiful smile and playful personality.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held at Riverside Funeral Home Chapel, 209 San Mateo Blvd, NE in Albuquerque, New Mexico on June 9th at 3pm. A small reception to follow at Gatherings Hall, 1605 Juan Tabo NE, Suite U, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87112. In Memoriam donations may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (http://www.jdrf.org/) and Autism Speaks (https://www.autismspeaks.org) both of which were special to Debbi because of her grandkids.
