Eva Herrera, age 88, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2026, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born on February 23, 1938, in Roy, New Mexico, Eva lived a full and vibrant life rooted in her faith, family, and the traditions of her beloved home state. Eva graduated from Roy High School as part of the Class of 1957. Her education laid the foundation for a life enriched by curiosity and a love of learning. She found joy in reading and solving crossword puzzles, pursuits that reflected her sharp mind and appreciation for knowledge. Walking was another cherished pastime for Eva, offering her moments of reflection and connection with the world around her. She also delighted in listening to New Mexico Spanish music, a testament to her deep appreciation for her cultural heritage. A devoted football fan, she enjoyed watching games and cheering on her favorite teams. Faith played a central role in Eva’s life. She was a devout Catholic who worshipped at Our Lady of Assumption and Holy Ghost Parishes in Albuquerque. Her spiritual devotion provided her with strength and comfort throughout her years. Eva’s family was the cornerstone of her life. She is survived by her son Bernard Romero; his wife, Yvonne Romero; granddaughter Belinda Casey and her husband Neal Casey; grandsons Armando Gallegos, Andres Romero, and Brian Romero; as well as great-grandchildren Maximus and Ellie Casey. She is also lovingly remembered by her sisters Mary Anne Ortiz and Helen Anaya and her brother Leroy Herrera. She was preceded in death by her parents, Emilio Herrera and Dulcinea Sandoval, many dear siblings: sisters Carmen Aragon, Dora Herrera, Josie Herrera, Mary Soto, and Theresa Chavez; as well as brothers Gilbert Herrera, Pete Herrera, and Eddie Herrera. Eva’s legacy is one of love for family, faithfulness to tradition, and an enduring zest for life’s simple pleasures. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her. May Eva’s memory bring comfort to those who mourn her passing.
