Raymond Esquivel

Ray Esquivel, 83, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at his home on March 19, 2026. He was born in Albuquerque on May 26, 1942. Ray lived his life with quiet strength and determination, dedicating himself to his family, water conservation, and music. He was passionate about water conservation, a value he shared with family and friends, often reminding them, “Don’t waste water—we’re in a drought.” His love for music spanned more than fifty years. Known widely as “Frito,” Ray was a respected Albuquerque saxophonist who performed with well-known bands including The Gliders, Spinning Wheel, and the Freddie Chavez Foundation.

Ray is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 38 years, Dinah Esquivel; his daughter, Melissa Esquivel, and her son, George; his son, Henry Esquivel; and his stepchildren, Jeanelle Parker and her husband, Aaron Parker, along with their children, Caden and Jaxon; Tony Alarcon; and Mando Alarcon, his life partner, Catheran Hanna, and his son, Ray Alarcon.

He is also survived by his sisters: Flora Chavez and her husband, Bob; Sara Guinn and her husband, Stan; Stephanie Cortez and her husband, Jose; and Lori Leisure; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Flora Esquivel; his son, Chris Esquivel; and his brother, Frankie Esquivel.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
