Johanna Enid DeAnza-Gerke
January 3, 1962 — March 27, 2026
Johanna Enid DeAnza-Gerke, lovingly known as Enie, passed away peacefully on March 27, 2026, in Lakewood, Colorado, after a brief and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born on January 3, 1962, in Trinidad, Colorado, Enie brought light and warmth into every life she touched. Her journey, marked by boundless love and an indomitable spirit, is a testament to a soul deeply connected to spirituality and kindness.
Enie was a vibrant spirit—a prayer warrior whose deep spirituality guided her through life’s challenges with grace and patience. Those who knew her experienced her bubbly and patient nature, qualities that endeared her to friends and family alike. She was truly a child at heart, generous and considerate in all her ways, with a kindness so profound it left lasting impressions on everyone around her.
Her personality sparkled in every room, and her stories were treasured moments for those lucky enough to listen. Enie was a real taker of life’s joys—she talked endlessly, delighting in sharing her memories, especially tales from her childhood when she would put on puppet shows and chat through her stuffed animals. This playful and imaginative side carried through into adulthood, fueling her love of cartoons, Disney movies, and her creative pursuits.
A gifted artist and musician, Enie expressed herself beautifully through painting, crocheting, and music. She masterfully played the piano, guitar, and violin, filling homes and hearts with song and melody. Baking was another of her passions, a way she showed love and care to her family and friends through her delightful creations.
Enie leaves behind a treasured family who will hold her memory close: her devoted spouse, Ron Coddington; her beloved children, Jaime (Melissa), Javier, and Merika; and her adoring grandchildren, Rhaionna, Haylie, Sabine, Darrius, and Madrid. She also leaves a loving sister, Meggan, and brother, Joseph, along with many other cherished family members who stand together in heartfelt remembrance.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph DeAnza and Susan Madrid-Rivera, and siblings Evelyn Joyce and Susan (Milky), whose memories live on in the legacy she carried forward.
A time to honor Enie’s life will be held on May 29, 2026, at Romero Funeral Home-Denver, located at 4750 Tejon St, Denver, CO 80211. The viewing will begin at 3:00 PM, followed immediately by a celebration of life starting at 4:00 PM until 5:00 PM.
