Douglas Allen Meuwissen

March 3, 1952 — May 2, 2026

Lt. Col. Douglas Meuwissen, U.S. Army (Ret.)Age 74, of Oakdale, passed away on May 2, 2026.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Juaine Meuwissen, and his daughter, Amy. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Kay; his sons, Chris, Ken (Marilu), and Pete (Whitney); and five grandchildren—Lucas, Elizabeth, Quinn, Brooklen, and Vincent—who will forever remember their papa’s humor, stories, and love.

Doug will be remembered first and foremost for the way he made people feel: welcomed, amused, and loved. He had a sharp wit and an easy sense of humor that could lighten any room, and he carried that same warmth into his roles as a husband, father, and especially grandfather. Time with family meant everything to him, whether sharing stories, taking vacations, laughing together, talking sports, or simply enjoying one another’s company.

He served his country with pride as a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel and Gulf War veteran, reflecting his steady character and deep sense of duty. He also devoted his life to caring for others as a certified registered nurse anesthetist, quietly helping people through vulnerable moments with skill, compassion, and calm reassurance. Whether in uniform or in the hospital, Doug’s work was rooted in service—protecting, healing, and putting others at ease.

Away from his professional life, Doug was happiest at the cabin or out fishing—places where he could relax, reflect, and enjoy the simple things he loved most.

Doug’s life was defined not only by what he did, but by how deeply he cared for those around him. He taught his children, sometimes against their will, how to drive, hunt, clean fish, and where to buy the best corn on the cob. He had high expectations and even higher aspirations for them but was understanding during the times they fell short. He was generous with his time, advice, and support, and he will be missed beyond words and remembered always in the stories, laughter, and the love he shared

A visitation will be held Tuesday, May 12, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at Sandberg Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Wednesday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m. at Transfiguration Catholic Church, followed by a luncheon and procession to Fort Snelling National Cemetery for interment.
