Thomas James Heinz

Aug 5, 1971 — Jun 16, 2026

Thomas James Heinz, 54, of Oakdale, MN passed away surrounded by family on Monday, June 15, 2026 following a 2+ year battle with Cholangiocarcinoma. The youngest of 5 and twin brother to Carol, Thomas was born August 5, 1971 to Gary and Anne Heinz in St. Paul, MN. Following elementary school at Holy Spirit in St. Paul, Thomas graduated from Cretin Derham-Hall in 1990 and later completed his A.A.S. in Electrical Construction Design and Management at Dunwoody Technical College in Minneapolis. He was a Senior Associate and Electrical Designer for IMEG Corp. (formerly LKPB Engineers) where he’d worked for over 25 years. Thomas spent much of his childhood and teen years on the family farm property “up north” near Swan River, MN, logging alongside his father and brothers, raising ducks with his sister Carol, fishing, hunting and nurturing his lifelong love of the outdoors. It was there he met and married his wife, Erin Anderson, on September 18, 2010. The two made their home in Oakdale, MN where they began raising their three children, Aurelia, Marshall and Christopher. Tom enjoyed target shooting, hockey, history and spending time at his favorite destination, the North Shore of Lake Superior. He was a loving father, dedicated husband and loyal friend who will be forever missed. Thomas is preceded in death by his parents, Anne and Gary, and brother-in-law Kristoffer Anderson. He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Erin; daughter Aurelia and sons Marshall “Mark” and Christopher “Chris” Heinz; brothers Joe (Misty) Heinz of Gulf Shores, AL, Mike (Emilie) Heinz of Plymouth, MN and Chris (Michelle) Heinz of Lino Lakes, MN; twin sister, Carol (Dan) Gerlach of Woodbury, MN; mother-and-father-in-law Marshall and Valerie Anderson of Jacobson, MN; brother-and-sister-in-law Carey and Diane Kowalski of Shakopee, MN, and 9 nieces and nephews. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and volunteers of Our Lady of Peace Hospice in St. Paul for their warm, compassionate care. A visitation will be held Thursday, June 25th, 2026 beginning at 10am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 at the Church of St. Peter, 2600 Margaret St, North St. Paul, MN 55109  with a luncheon immediately following services at the church.  Private family interment will be held in the Sago Cemetery in Swan River.
