Robert Shane Christensen

d. May 16, 2026

Robert Shane Christensen, lovingly known as Rob and Robby, was born in Provo, Utah, on October 10, 1971, the third child of Robert C. and Kathleen Spears Christensen. He grew up in Payson, Utah, where he attended school from kindergarten through twelfth grade and graduated from Payson High School in 1989.

As a young boy he loved to get up at family gatherings and tell jokes and stories which he often greatly embellished. Later as a teenager, his ambition was to become a “skater dude.” His mother kept reminding him that his friends would eventually melt away, but his family would always be there for him. While in high school he was a thespian and performed in productions such as “Bye Bye Birdie.”

When he was fifteen, one particular experience Rob had, which taught him that he could do “hard things,” was participating in a strenuous 50/20 hike around West Mountain in Utah Valley. The goal required the boys and their scout leaders to hike the entire fifty miles in twenty hours. Boys who finished had to keep walking all night long, only sitting down occasionally or lying down in the road to rest. The help and encouragement of his family, driving and walking beside him, kept him going and propped him up the last 10 miles. Though thoroughly exhausted with rubbery legs, Rob was one of the few boys who completed the long hike.

Rob was a man of faith, service, and determination. At age fourteen, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. That achievement reflected his strong character and perseverance. He later served a two-year mission in Texas for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was an experience that deepened his testimony and strengthened his lifelong desire to serve others.

Rob and Gina first met at the jewelry counter in SHOPKO where he was working. From the beginning Gina decided Rob was a handsome catch. She and Rob attended a basketball game where Rob’s younger brother Brandon was playing. Rob had brought along a small box of Cracker Jacks to share. Part way through the game he casually offered some to his girlfriend. She ate a few and then as she dug deeper—out came an engagement ring. She seemed thrilled, his parents were excited, and as word quickly got around to the nearby spectators, people started clapping and asking Gina what her answer was. We are so glad she said, “YES.”

In 1997, Rob and Gina Fisher were married in a ceremony held in his parents’ backyard, officiated by his father, Bishop Robert C. Christensen. Together they built a loving family and were grateful to welcome three children into their home: Anna Josette, Robert Braden, and Caleb Shane. In 2000, Rob and Gina solemnized their marriage in the Boise Idaho Temple, an occasion that reflected the deep faith and devotion they shared.

For Rob’s 50th Birthday, Gina wrote about their time together, “Thankfully, age and experience have tempered us both, and over the past 25 years, Rob has become my best friend. His humor, his kindness, his selflessness, his loyalty, his positive outlook on people and life, and his unconditional love amaze me.”

Rob also gave generous service to each of his church callings. He was a wonderful cub scouter and primary teacher, with a special gift for engaging, teaching, and entertaining young people. In later years, he was called to serve as a gospel doctrine teacher, where he continued to share his faith and testimony with sincerity and warmth.

Rob’s career reflected his hard work and selfless dedication to others. He was the best custodial engineer he could possibly be for the Ontario Oregon School District, where he was beloved by the students who called him Mr. “C.” He would reply, “Mr. C stands for COOL.” In the last several years of his career, he served the district as an IT technician, a trade he taught himself and developed through his own initiative and determination. In that role, he was recognized for the last two years as the Employee of the Year. That honor was a testament to both his skill and the high regard that so many others held for him.

One of Rob’s mottos was, “You’ve got to love everybody and make them feel good about themselves.”

Rob passed away in Boise, Idaho, on May 16, 2026, from injuries sustained in a accident when an automobile struck him while he was riding his new e-bike.

His passing leaves a deep sadness in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Rob was a fun-loving man whose warmth and personality brought joy to so many around him. Although, throughout his life, he faced anxieties and other health challenges, he continued faithfully in his loving roles as a husband, father, and grandfather. His grandsons Jack and Lewis Reed will always treasure the memories they shared with their beloved “Bobo.”

Robert Shane Christensen is survived by his loving wife and eternal companion, Gina; his children, Katelyn, Anna, Robin, and Caleb; his grandchildren, Jack, Lewis, Rigel, Kayden, Clark, Adelia and Juniper; his parents Bob & Kathy Christensen; and five siblings: Britany, Cindy, Angie, David, & Brandon.

He will be remembered for his devotion to faith, his strong work ethic, his willingness to learn and grow, and the kindness he showed to those around him. Whether through his service, his work, or his quiet example, Rob made a lasting difference in the lives of many. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A memorial service of Rob’s life will be held at 11am on May 23rd, 2026, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ chapel at 325 N Pennsylvania Ave, Fruitland, Idaho 83619.
