Gregory Alan Carter

June 15, 1976 — May 16, 2026

Gregory Alan Carter, known to his friends as “Kentucky”, passed away peacefully in his sleep Saturday May 16,2026 at Beaufort Memorial Hospital in South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth Berntsen Carter. He was a proud father and is survived by his two beloved children Cayden Marin Carter, and Jaxon Alan Carter, as well as a sister, Alicia Marie Nivens and a niece and nephew, Faith Brianne Nivens and Ethan Scott Nivens.

Known for his friendly and outgoing personality, he rarely crossed paths with anyone that he didn’t try to start a conversation or cut a joke with. He spread smiles and laughter to friends and strangers alike and left lasting impressions everywhere along his path. Born in Ashland Ky on June 15, 1976, he grew up playing little league baseball and always loved any chance to go fishing, but few people knew that he also became a skilled competitor at Chess, even placing at the state level in high school. Greg has been a devoted life long fan of UK college basketball. He made sure he rarely, if ever, missed cheering on his beloved Wildcats and was often heard telling friends how he “bleeds blue.” He was a graduate of Paul G Blazer High School in Ashland Ky, as part of the Class of 1994 where he made many lasting friendships that he carried on throughout his life. As a young man, he relocated to Beaufort SC where he has lived the greater part of the last 30 years, and worked in the construction trade.

He leaves behind a vast network of friends and extended family whose lives were touched in some way or another by his kindness, humor, or generous spirit. A celebration of life is tentatively being scheduled for Saturday June 13, 2026 but will be announced once its confirmed.
