Harold Dickey Depkin, Jr.

Harold Dickey Depkin, Jr., known to many as Hal, passed away on April 1, 2026, in Bluffton, South Carolina.

Born on December 11, 1952, he spent the first ten years of his childhood in Salem, Virginia, before his family relocated to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. It was in this vibrant island setting that Harold’s love for surfing and motorcycling blossomed, passions that afforded him countless memorable experiences and a profound appreciation for island life.

Hal was an alumni of Beaufort Academy and attended University of South Carolina. In his later years, he chose the tranquility of Bluffton, South Carolina, as his home, where he continued to embrace the relaxed coastal lifestyle that suited his adventurous spirit so well.

Hal was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Harold Depkin and Jarvis Schaefer Depkin. 

Hal is survived by his siblings: Dabney Depkin Blaine, Katherine Dickey Depkin, Frank Christian Depkin, and Isabel Depkin Wolf, along with many nieces and nephews who carry forward his legacy.

A memorial service to honor Harold’s life and legacy will be held at a later date, allowing family, friends, and all whose lives he touched to come together in remembrance. He will be dearly missed, and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
