Sheryl Ann Briggs

May 13, 1948 — March 28, 2026

2 Timothy 4:7-8: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith She lived her life with a quiet strength and was a beautiful, always joyful reflection of God’s love!

Sheryl A Briggs, age 77, of Bluffton, SC, gained her eternal reward for a life so beautifully lived on Saturday evening, March 28th, 2026 at home surrounded by love.

Born May 13th, 1948, she was the daughter of Floyd E Bailey and Lenna M Bailey who both preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Melissa A Briggs and I can only imagine the joyful reunion that took place between them on the evening of March 28th.

Also preceding her in death was her older brother, Daniel P Bailey.

Sherry was a caregiver with a servant’s heart. She gave 40+ years to geriatric nursing and retired only to care for her oldest daughter, who had Prader-Willi Syndrome, until her passing.  She was very quick witted and enjoyed nothing more than a good joke. To beat her at any word game, especially boggle, was a near impossibility. To know her was to be blessed and probably helped by her at some point in your life.

Her loss is deeply felt by those she left behind including her daughter, Elizabeth A Glass (Jeremy T Glass) of Bluffton, SC, her 5 remaining siblings, Deborah L Fairchild (Eli D Fairchild) of Cincinnati, OH, Loretta M Bailey (Dan’s spouse) of Hobe Sound, FLA, Rebecca S Long (Mearl R Long) of Annville, PA, Thomas F Bailey (Ruth A Bailey) of Easley, SC, Kathy L Elkins (James D Elkins) of Independence, KY, William T Bailey (Dixie L  Bailey) of Hobe Sound, FLA, and many other loving family members, friends, and caregivers.

Our family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support in so many heart-felt forms from so many people, including: Compassus Hospice Care of Bluffton, Mom loved her caregivers, from nurses to CNAs, NPs, Social worker, and case manager.  She especially found comfort in her last months from her hospice Chaplain, Joe who always had a joke ready for her when he came to visit.  Also, all family and friends. The Friends of Hunting Island board and Sea Turtle Conservation Project and its volunteers who reached out with condolences,  The Hunting Island State Park and all of its employees and park manager, Kirby Brady for so graciously hosting her Celebration of Life Service. Lastly, to Simplicity: Lowcountry Cremation and Burial Services of Bluffton, SC where Sheri Stahl and her staff were amazing and made this process as easy as possible with guidance and comfort throughout. We appreciate you all!

There will be a Celebration of Life Service at Hunting Island State Park , 2555 Sea Island Parkway   Saint Helena Island, SC 29920 on Sunday, May 3, 2026 at 4p at the lighthouse pavilion.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to the Friends of Hunting Island State Park and earmarked specifically for the sea turtle conservation project in memory of Sherry Briggs or it will go into the general fund.  Thank you!
