Betty Chaplin Chinners Chivers
June 17, 1932 — May 20, 2026
Betty Chinners Chivers was born in Ravenel, South Carolina on June 17, 1932, to Joseph and Lottie Chaplin. She was the fourth child of seven.
Betty was a kind soul and a woman of many talents. She was an accomplished seamstress as well as a ruthless Rummikub player. Every Wednesday and Friday for over 20 years Betty could be found at the Market in downtown Charleston selling her handmade dolls, teddy bears and other crafts. Betty was a great cook and famous for her delicious carrot cake. She loved to bowl, fish, square dance and spend time with family in the North Carolina mountains. She was also notorious for her Pepsi addiction(regular not diet).
Betty is survived by her sister Eileen Chaplin Boynton, daughter Cathy Chinners Shoemaker, son Herman R. Chinners, Jr., stepsons Gene Chivers (Pam) and Brian Chivers (Kitty) as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, step grandchildren plus several greats. Betty was preceded in death by husbands Herman R.Chinners (1995) and Carl O. Chivers (2005); as well as four brothers and one sister.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Wildcat Senior Living, the staff at Bristol Hospice and private sitters Mimi Chavis and Toni Shepherd.
Private interment to be held at a later date.
