Charles K Whatley
January 23, 1952 — May 31, 2026
On May 31, 2026, the world lost a gentle giant as Charles "Chuck" Whatley, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with leukemia. Born on January 23, 1952, in Biloxi, Mississippi, Chuck's life was an extraordinary journey marked by love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to those he held dear.
Chuck was the cherished son of Charles (Bill) and Hilda Whatley. He is predeceased by his father, Bill, and leaves behind his devoted mother, Hilda. His spirit lives on in the hearts of his beloved wife of 50 years, Marilyn Williams Whatley, whose steadfast companionship was the cornerstone of his life. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Iris Whatley-Mobley, Sabrina Whatley, and Marlin Whatley, who, alongside their families, carry forward Chuck's legacy of kindness and resilience.
A dedicated long-distance truck driver for over 53 years, Chuck's career was a testament to his work ethic and adventurous spirit. His passion for the open road inspired his son Marlin to venture into the trucking business, a testament to the profound impact Chuck had on those around him. His colleagues and friends admired him for his deep sense of responsibility, and he was known to never meet a stranger, always ready with a smile and a helping hand.
Chuck was a man with a heart as vast as the routes he traveled. He was a beacon of warmth, renowned for his legendary bear hugs and his ability to make everyone feel like family. His life was a beautiful tapestry woven with moments centered around his family, especially his three cherished granddaughters: Kennedy, Leareece, and Ruby Jean. Chuck's joy was found in their laughter and accomplishments, and he was a constant source of encouragement and love.
Surrounded by a loving family, Chuck is survived by his siblings, Barbara (Glen) Skipper, Betty (Sid) Breland, Kathy (Jack) Pack, and Bruce (Cathy) Whatley, as well as numerous nieces and nephews who adored their Uncle Chuck. His family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the staff of the Roper St. Francis Mott Bone Marrow Transplant and Cellular Therapy Unit, whose care and compassion were a blessing during his final days.
A celebration of Chuck's life will take place on June 13, 2026, at 12:00 PM at the Moncks Corner United Methodist Church fellowship hall, located at 106 Church Street, Moncks Corner, SC 29461. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Moncks Corner United Methodist Church in loving memory of Chuck Whatley, ensuring his spirit of generosity continues to touch lives.
Chuck Whatley leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering kindness. As we gather to honor his life, let us remember the joy he brought to our lives and carry forward his spirit of compassion and friendship. Rest in peace, dear Chuck, knowing you were deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
