D.J. "Jack" Nyhart Jr.

August 25, 1938 — June 21, 2025

D.J. “Jack” Nyhart, Jr., devoted husband, father, and grandfather of Summerville, SC passed away peacefully on June 21, 2025.  Jack was born on August 25, 1938, in Killbuck, OH, the youngest of three brothers to the late Dewey John and Beatrice L. Smith Nyhart. 

Jack joined the United States Navy as a young man and served during the Cold War.  He retired as a Chief Warrant Officer (CW02-Cryptologic Tech.) During his 20-year service, he was awarded four Navy conduct medals, National Defense service letter, Navy and Marine Corps service ribbon, and United Nations service medal.  Afterwards, he obtained an associate’s degree in horticulture and later retired again from Alcoa.   His favorite past time was tuning in the garage radio to good music and puttering around in his well-groomed yard.  He also loved golfing, hunting, family and traveling with his beloved wife and friends.  He was of the Methodist faith and his most cherished title was “Papa.”  

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Percelia O. Nyhart, who stood with unwavering commitment to his care during his declining health; five children, Joleen (Carl) Stuhlman, Denise (Robert) Hopkins, Kelly (David) House, Derek Nyhart, and Gayla (Hank) Clothier, nine grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. 

A Graveside Service with military honors will be held June 30, 2025 at 9:00am at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd, Salisbury, NC 28144.
