George Gene Silvis, 95, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026. Born on October 30, 1930, in Brooklyn, New York, George lived a full and meaningful life defined by hard work, quiet strength, and a deep love for his family.

He raised his family in Smithtown, New York, where he built a life as a devoted husband, father, provider, brother and friend. In later years, he retired to Lake Tillery, North Carolina, where he enjoyed a slower pace of life.

George proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He carried that same sense of duty and discipline throughout his life. He was a man who believed in showing up, working hard, and taking care of the people he loved.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Katherine Silvis; his children, Vic Silvis (Shera), Penney Gentile, Pamela Lee Silvis, Katherine Baril (Art), Eve Greene; and his cherished grandchildren, Rob Gentile and Zoey Gentile, Brother Joe Silvis (Betty), Sister Miki Brooks (Joe)

George was known for his unmistakable personality—funny, kind, and a straight shooter. He said what he meant, and you never had to wonder where you stood with him. Beneath that directness was a man with a big heart, a deep sense of loyalty, and a quiet love for those closest to him.

He loved his morning quiet time with a cup of coffee and a Danish, a good game of pool with friends, in his younger years, dancing, and time spent with his family and dogs and grand dogs. He had a love for the poetry of Robert Frost, appreciating its reflection on life, nature, and the human spirit. At one point in his life, he was a runner, embracing both discipline and solitude.

Though not a regular churchgoer, George believed in God and carried his faith in his own steady, personal way.

Those who knew him will remember his familiar sayings—“Case Closed,” often declared after giving treats to the dogs, and “There it is”—simple words that somehow said everything.

George leaves behind a legacy of strength, independence, and unwavering dedication to his family. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and forever loved.
