Mary Emily Hutchinson Cribb
July 6, 1951 — April 15, 2026
Mary Emily Hutchinson Cribb, 74, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2026. She was born on July 6, 1951, in Gorham, Maine, to Joyce Ames and Lloyd Hutchinson.
Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and the heart of her family. On April 6, 1971, she married the love of her life, Bobbie James Cribb, in North Carolina. Together they built a life centered on love, faith, and family. She now reunites with her beloved husband, alongside whom she will be laid to rest.
Alongside Bobby, Mary raised three sons, whom she adored. Surviving her are James Christopher Cribb, of Moncks Corner, South Carolina, and Sean Michael Cribb of Summerville, South Carolina. She was sadly preceded in death, by her eldest and very dear son, Stewart Jerome Cribb. She was the proud grandmother of Bobby Cribb of Jacksonville, Florida, Brandon Cribb of Summerville, South Carolina, and Emily Cribb of Summerville, South Carolina, and a cherished great-grandmother to Remy, Wyatt, and Charlotte, all of Jacksonville, Florida.
She is also survived by her siblings Cynthia (Ames) Meddaugh (married to Scott Meddaugh) of Missouri, and Dennis Ames of Connecticut, as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly and enjoyed spoiling. Much-loved siblings, William Hutchinson and Ronald Hutchinson preceded Mary in death, but she thought of them daily.
Mary dedicated many years of service to the Berkeley County School District. She began her career as a bus driver for Sangaree Elementary School and later served as a teacher’s aide at College Park Elementary School, where she worked until her retirement. Her kindness, patience, and care left a lasting impression on countless students and colleagues.
Outside of work, Mary found her greatest joy in watching her grandchildren grow. She loved crossword puzzles and word games, spending quiet moments on her front porch, and baking for those she loved. She was especially known for her delicious pound cakes and her tradition of baking birthday cakes for family members. Many fond memories were made sitting at the counter while Mary baked, eagerly waiting for a chance to lick the frosting spatula.
Mary had a way of making everyone feel loved, remembered and valued. Every call or visit with a loved one included questions about the health and happiness of anyone important to that person – a testament to her immense heart and the reach of care she embodied. She made it known that she was “Aunt Mary,” not “Ant Mary,” and she never ended a phone call without saying, “I love you.” She was truly the glue that held her family together, faithfully staying in touch with everyone and welcoming all with open arms and a full heart.
Strong in her faith, Mary believed deeply that God had a plan for all things. Her strength, compassion, and unwavering love will continue to guide those who were blessed to know her.
Mary will be buried at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, South Carolina, alongside her husband Bobbie. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
If inclined, it would mean a lot to Mary to make any donations to Wreaths Across America or The Salvation Army, both organizations she greatly treasured.
She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and always remembered.
