Marion “Skip” Rector passed away peacefully on February 17, 2023 at the Ralph H. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Charleston, SC. He was born on September 15, 1949 in Aiken, SC to Marion M. Rector and Claudia C. Rector. Skip enlisted in the U. S. Navy from 1969-1973 then completed an undergraduate degree in Florida and a graduate degree in Social Work from the University of South Carolina. He attended the Kripalu Institute in Lennox MA for advanced training in the practice of yoga and meditation then became an adjunct faculty member of the College of Charleston, teaching yoga practice for almost 30 years. Skip worked with thousands of students of all ages and ability levels with the intention of helping others to improve their quality of life through the essence of yoga, combining mind, body and spirit. He worked with student athletes to help them attain peak performance and his yoga classes were always filled to capacity. In 2008, he received a certificate of recognition from the college as an Outstanding Adjunct Faculty member for service to students. He also co-produced an instruction video and wrote a corresponding book on the practice of yoga. Sharing his passion with young and old he was an instructor for several years at the Frankie Home in Mt. Pleasant and the Lowcountry Senior Center on James Island. Skip was also a master teacher of the Reiki Method of Natural Healing and completed a program in Hypnotic and Strategic Psychotherapy as well as a two year degree in Counseling.
